Join Solana Center for this two-hour presentation where you will learn the basics of backyard composting and vermicomposting (composting with worms) at the San Diego Zoo!

Using trial-tested advice and interactive demonstrations, our expert educator will teach you all you need to know to get started with a bin that fits your needs and lifestyle.

The City of San Diego’s Environmental Services Department is hosting a FREE Recycling Event with support from the dreamstime_s_89192143State of California Department of Resources, Recycling and Recovery, CalRecycle. Items that will be accepted at this event are: oil, antifreeze, oil filters, car batteries, household batteries, and fluorescent bulbs. This service will be offered from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at Qualcomm Stadium, 9449 Friars Road, San Diego, CA 92108.

Transportation Requirements: Maximum limit for transportation ~ 10 Gallons

To search for a location to recycle used oil and oil filters in your neighborhood, visit CalRecycle’s website at Calrecycle.ca.gov/UsedOIl/Reports/CenterSearch.

NO BUSINESS WASTE ACCEPTED.

We will be working to remove invasive plants from North Fiesta Island. We’re doing this to promote nesting by thedreamstime_s_70952765 California Least Tern (an endangered species) and to create space for native coastal dune plants. The meeting location will be on the northern edge of Fiesta Island in Mission Bay.

Presented by Solana Center, this workshop will teach how to successfully snip your apple, plum, peach or other deciduous fruit trees into shape and keep them producing.

This workshop will cover the following topics:
- General pruning basics.
- Proper pruning for deciduous (winter dormant) species.
- Hands-on pruning opportunity.
- Why fruit trees are the bones of a food forest.

The workshop is taught by BioEve, founder and lead designer, Dave Johnston.
